About Women Peacemakers Program

Women Peacemakers Program (WPP) was established in 1997, and works to support and empower women peace activists.

We advocate for a gender perspective in peacebuilding; ideas about masculinities and femininities are important to consider when taking about gender perspective on peacebuilding.

WPP’s mission is to empower civil society through active nonviolence to promote cultures of peace based upon the values of tolerance, inclusion, cooperation and equality.

The WPP believes that in order to truly changes cultures of war and violence female and male peace activists need to work together as allies. Truly democratic structures and sustainable peace can only be achieved when women are equal partners in decision-making: “Without peace, development is impossible – and without women, neither peace nor development can take place”.

Via the WPP In Action weblog we keep partners and friends up-to-date with our activities in the field. Here you can read interesting insights and observations, reflections of participants of our activities and future plans!
